About Discovery Charter School


Discovery Charter School (DCS), founded by the Mount Carmel Human Development Corporation opened its door in the West Parkside area of Philadelphia in September 2003.


DCS offers a holistic teaching and learning environment where children actively construct their knowledge through:

  • Activity based curricular units of study.
  • Connecting curriculum to resource rich discoveries outside the classroom.
  • Combining studies and discoveries in forms of expressions through dance, drama, art, music, multi-media, and culinary arts.
  • Encouraging initiatives that will direct children to character building attributes of integrity, empathy, compassion, self discipline and citizenship as demonstrated in the nationally recognized Second Step Program.
